A benefit of forex trading is that it is not really subject to the same kind of swings in the market that stocks are subject to.

Of course if you always buy and sell the same currencies then there will be market swings.

But, because there are hundreds of currencies out there, there is always going to be something for you to make money on because while one currency is up in value another one is down and vice versa.

Forex trading does not take huge amounts of capital to start. Traders can begin investing with as little as three hundred dollars.

Transaction costs are usually minimal. Often brokers will provide you with the tools and data you need to make trades for free.

There are a large number of buyers and sellers all selling the same products. Information is free-flowing and there are few barriers to participation.

Forex trading is an over-the counter (OTC) market. This means buyers and sellers do not meet in central locations to make exchanges. Instead transactions are completed by phone, fax, email, internet or through the websites of brokers specializing in this market.

Currencies are always traded in pairs. Transactions always involve selling one
currency and buying another. If you believe the euros would gain against the dollar you would sell dollars and buy euros.

A very liquid market, your money is not held up for long periods of time. You will have full control of your trading capital.

1-Penny Stocks are a penny for a reason. While we all dream about investing in the next Microsoft or the next Home Depot, the truth is, the odds of you finding that once in a decade success story are slim. These companies are either starting out and purchased a shell company because it was cheaper than an IPO, or they simply do not have a business plan compelling enough to justify investment banker's money for an IPO. This doesn't make them a bad investment, but it should make you be realistic about the kind of company that you are investing in.

2. Trading Volumes

Look for a consistent high volume of shares being traded. Looking at the average volume can be misleading. If ABC trades 1 million shares today, and doesn't trade for the rest of the week, the daily average will appear to be 200 000 shares. In order to get in and out at an acceptable rate of return, you need consistent volume. Also look at the number of trades per day. Is it 1 insider selling or buying? Liquidity should be the first thing to look at. If there is no volume, you will end up holding "dead money", where the only way of selling shares is to dump at the bid, which will put more selling pressure, resulting in an even lower sell price.

3. Does the company know how to make a profit?

While its not unusual to see a start up company run at a loss, its important to look at why they are losing money. Is it manageable? Will they have to seek further financing (resulting in dilution of your shares) or will they have to seek a joint partnership that favors the other company?

If your company knows how to make a profit, the company can use that money to grow their business, which increases shareholder value. You have to do some research to find these companies, but when you do, you lower the risk of a loss of your capital, and increase the odds of a much higher return.

4. Look for chart in day trades and wait for half of a day to see the trend of any stock. If that stock goes up initially, short it and if that stock goes down, pick it at bottom (you can guess the approximate bottom of the day with some practice using daily up down averages). Even when this strategy doesn't work, the losses will be very small.

5. Profitable day traders recognize that penny stock trading is among the greatest ways to harvest BIG piles of cash in the stock market.

6. The problem is that if you don't know what stocks to look for and how to approach them while limiting your risk, you won't even get close to making some profits.

7. You don't necessarily have to trade hot small cap & micro cap stocks all the time. But you can learn how to take advantage of them when you encounter the best opportunities while at the same time limiting your risk.

If you get stopped out, move on to the next opportunity. The market is telling you something, and whether you want to admit it or not, its usually best to listen.

If your plan was to sell at $0.15 and it jumps to $0.16, either take the 30% gain, or better still, place your stop at $0.15. Lock in your profits while not capping the upside potential.

Forex: GBP/USD falls further to 1.6320

GBP/USD continues to fall across the board. GBP/USD slid further to 1.6320, posting a fresh intra-day low. The pair continues it collapse form 1.6690 (one-month high) reached early on Friday during the European session. Currently it trades at 1.6351/55, 1.60% below today’s opening price. On the downside the next support below 1.6300 lies at 1.6240 (Oct 19 low).

The Sterling is suffering the biggest daily decline in a month and lost a big part of weekly gains.

Andrew Wilkinson, analyst at Interactive Brokers, affirms: “A sixth consecutive quarterly decline in British GDP marked the longest recorded string of negative growth readings since records began in 1955. A 0.4% quarterly decline confounded expectations for a 0.2% gain and created an immediate slump in the value of the pound (…) In Monopoly terms, Britain drew a “miss-a-turn” card from the Community Chest pile. Today’s data gives the British economy the appearance as the clear laggard mired in recession. But when you look at the pound relative to recent lows against its two majors, it’s actually performing rather well.”

1- Calculate how much you spend every month

Health care stocks are expected to go high

Here's a startling report: A Price Water house Coopers study says that the current health-care reform legislation would increase a family's insurance bill by $1,700 a year in 2013 compared with not enacting the legislation. By 2019, the increase could jump to $4,000 a year more than the current status quote.

Weren't we trying to lower health-care costs?
Admittedly, the study was commissioned by America's Health Insurance Plans, the trade group that lobbies for health insurers like United Health Group (NYSE: UNH), CIGNA (NYSE: CI), Aetna (NYSE: AET), and Humana (NYSE: HUM), so take the numbers for whatever they're worth. It is clear, however, that there's one provision in the bill that would most certainly increase the cost of insurance by itself: requiring health insurers to cover pre-existing conditions.

Despite the fact that insuring something that's already occurring is an oxymoron, I think the idea of mandated coverage for pre-existing conditions has a lot of merit. It essentially breaks the tie between health insurance and employer, because employees with high blood pressure or diabetes, for instance, would finally have the option of getting coverage on their own at a reasonable rate. They would be free to move to another company that might not offer immediate health insurance coverage or even start their own business. It would increase entrepreneurism, helping the next Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Intuitive Surgical (Nasdaq: ISRG), or Dendreon (Nasdaq: DNDN) attract employees until the company was able to offer health insurance on its own.

But that freedom comes at a cost. Requiring health insurers to cover everyone will flood the insurance pool with people who are already sick, and those costs will have to be shared by everyone. The only way to lower the cost is to get healthy people into the system, too, by mandating health insurance.

A repulsive tax on the poor
The idea of requiring everyone to carry health insurance isn't that farfetched. States require motorists to carry auto insurance, for instance. But there's the question of how to make it a requirement. It's not like you need a license to live.

The easiest way to get everyone insured is to put a monetary penalty on those who don't have coverage. Essentially, give people a choice to pay for health insurance or pay a tax -- or lose a tax break, it's all the same.

The problem, of course, is that the people who are going to end up paying the tax are the ones who can't afford health insurance in the first place. That's not exactly "death-panel" material, but the counterintuitive nature of how to deal with getting the healthy covered doesn't sit well with many people.

To make it more palatable, lawmakers lowered the penalty originally proposed by Max Baucus, but that creates a whole new problem.

Without a high penalty for not having health insurance, the system is too easy to game. People could simply fail to carry insurance until they got sick, get coverage to pay for their illness, and drop the coverage later on. In Massachusetts, where the state requires citizens to have health insurance, there's some evidence that this is happening.

Using this strategy, people would still risk getting a life-threatening illness that needed immediate attention, but that's no different than the system we have now, where the uninsured are still taken care of in an emergency. And, when they can't pay their bills, the hospital eats the costs and passes them on to insured patients in the form of higher medical costs to the tune of about $1,000 a year, according to the president.

The Senate Finance Committee bill, in its current form, would extend coverage to 29 million people, but still leave about 25 million Americans without coverage. That's a good start, but far from a complete reform that many people were expecting, and it may come at a steep cost to those of us who already have insurance.

Black monday anniversary

Black Monday is the name given to Monday, October 19, 1987, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell 22.6%. The Black Monday one-day decline was not confined to the United States but was mirrored all over the world. By the end of October, stock markets in Australia had fallen 41.8%, Canada 22.5%, Hong Kong 45.8%, and the United Kingdom 26.4%.

(The terms Black Monday and Black Tuesday are also applied to October 28 and 29, 1929, which occurred after Black Thursday on October 24, which started the Stock Market Crash of 1929.)

The Black Monday decline was the second largest one-day percentage decline in stock market history. The largest one occurred on Saturday, December 12, 1914, when the DJIA fell 24.39%. However, in this case, the New York market had been closed since July due to the outbreak of WW I. The greatest point loss in DJIA history was on Monday, September 17, 2001, 684.81 points.

A certain degree of mystery is associated with the 1987 crash. Many have noted that no major news or events occurred prior to the Monday of the crash, the decline seeming to have come from nowhere. Important assumptions concerning human rationality, the efficient market hypothesis, and economic equilibrium were brought into question by the event. Debate as to the cause of the crash still continues many years after the event, no firm conclusions having been reached.

In the wake of the crash, markets around the world were put on restricted trading primarily because sorting out the orders that had come in was beyond the computer technology of the time. This also gave the Federal Reserve and other central banks time to pump liquidity into the system to prevent a further downdraft. While pessimism reigned, the market bottomed, leading some to label Black Monday a "selling climax", where the excess value was squeezed out of the system.
Causes
In 1986, the United States economy began shifting from a rapidly growing recovery to a slower growing expansion, which resulted in a "soft landing" as the economy slowed and inflation dropped. As 1987 wore on, it seemed that recessionary fears were not warranted and that boom times would continue. The stock market advanced significantly, peaking in August 1987. There were a series of volatile days that caused widespread nervousness leading up to the crash, with the market ultimately sliding downward. In late August some observers warned that technical analysis indicated the market was now in a cyclical "bear" mode. However, this view was not widely subscribed to even as the market traded wildly.

Potential causes for the decline include program trading, overvaluation, illiquidity, and market psychology. These theories might explain why the crash occurred on October 19 and not some other day, why it fell so far and fast, and why it was international in nature and not unique to American markets.

The most popular explanation for the 1987 crash was selling by program traders. Program trading is the use of computers to engage in arbitrage and portfolio insurance strategies. Through the 1970s and early 1980s, computers were becoming more important on Wall Street. They allowed instantaneous execution of orders to buy or sell large batches of stocks and futures. After the crash, many blamed program trading strategies for blindly selling stocks as markets fell, exacerbating the decline. Some economists theorized the speculative boom leading up to October was caused by program trading, while others argued that the crash was a return to normalcy. Either way, program trading ended up taking the majority of the blame in the public eye for the 1987 stock market crash.

Economist Richard Roll believes that the international nature of the stock market decline contradicts the argument that program trading was to blame. Program trading strategies were used primarily in the United States, Roll writes. If program trading caused the decline, why would markets where program trading was not prevalent such as Australia and Hong Kong have declined, as well? Although these markets might have been reacting to excessive program trading in the United States, Roll points to observations that would indicate otherwise. The crash began on October 19 in Hong Kong, spread west to Europe, and hit the United States only after Hong Kong and other markets had already declined by a significant margin.

Another common theory states that the crash was a result of a dispute in monetary policy between the G-7 industrialized nations, in which the United States, wanting to prop up the dollar and restrict inflation, tightened policy faster than the Europeans. The crash, in this view, was caused when the dollar-backed Hong Kong stock exchange collapsed, and this caused a crisis in confidence.Jude Wanniski stated that the crash happened because of the breakup of the Louvre Accord, a monetary pact between the US, Japan, and Germany to keep currencies stable. Just prior to the crash, Alan Greenspan had said that the dollar would be devalued.

Another theory is that the Great Storm of 1987, which happened on the Friday before the crash, helped contribute to it. In 1987 there was no Internet trading, and brokers had to physically get to work in the City of London in order to do their deals. On Friday, October 16, many routes into London were closed and consequently many traders were unable to reach their offices in order to close their positions at the end of the week. This made many people nervous on both sides of the Atlantic and there were certainly some traders who believed at the time that this acted as the trigger for the panic selling which took place on Black Monday. Panic selling in London and New York, the biggest stock markets in the world, then affected other markets around the world, creating a global stock market crash.

Yet another theory for the 1987 crash was the random placement of sell orders in a sufficiently small time interval as to cause a sudden decline in the indices, leading to a cascade effect of further sell orders. In the days preceding the actual Black Monday crash the markets began to sell off, beginning with a sudden 5% selloff on Wednesday, three days before the actual crash. Prior to that Wednesday, the trend for the Nasdaq/DJIA was stable, and undergoing what could be interpreted as a normal correction. If one were to zoom in on Wednesday one would notice normal trading activity and then an abrupt 1% intra-day drop. This drop could have been triggered by randomly placed sell orders that happened to all trigger at once. Althoug the odds of this happening are very slim, there is a probability that sufficient random sell orders placed by institutions, insiders, and the like will trigger a cascade effect should enough sell orders be placed in a small enough time interval.

The initial small 1% selloff caused by the 'clumped' random sell orders may have prompted trend traders to liquidate their positions, resulting in a larger decine that simply fed on itself like a domino effect, ultimately leading to the 26% crash of Black Monday.

The Chinese Bull is Recovering

The pace of China's economic recovery is accelerating, with nominal gross domestic product growth expected to hit a 9% rate in the third quarter, according to the latest government estimates carried Monday in a state-media report.

The research department of China's State Council offered the forecast, which would mark a sharp rise from growth of 7.9% in the second quarter and 7.1% over the first six months of the year, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

"China's economic stimulus plan has produced positive effects," Zhao Jinping, a researcher with the Development Research Center of the State Council, was quoted as saying.

Another forecast, from the Chinese Academy for Social Sciences, was for the September quarter's growth to exceed 9%, helping lift economic expansion for the full year to a projected 8.3%, the report said.

"China's economic growth is very likely to exceed 9% [in the third quarter]. The strong rebound was based on the relatively low basis in the third quarter of last year," said Wang Tongsan, a senior researcher with the academy, which serves as a top government think tank.

Official GDP data for the quarter are due out Thursday. Consensus estimates put the growth figure at 9.1%, according to a poll by Dow Jones Newswires.

Uwe Parpart, a Hong Kong-based economist for Cantor Fitzgerald, was also upbeat on Chinese economy, citing trade data released last week. That data showed September imports contracting 3.5% -- as opposed to a 15% drop expected by economists.

Many have underestimated the resilience of China during the global downturn, Parpart said, writing in a Monday note: "The China factor ... has already proved more important than most economists had thought possible.

"A process of global re-balancing is underway and is capable of forestalling an economic (and markets) double-dip."

But others expressed doubts, saying Chinese bureaucrats are likely massaging financial data to meet the economic targets laid out by the government.

Thailand-based economist Marc Faber said in September he doesn't trust the government's numbers. In reality, he believes, the mainland economy is growing at around 3%.

Separately Monday, the National Development and Reform Commission and the People's Bank of China said that Beijing will limit approval of new projects in sectors with excessive capacity, while curbing banks' lending to projects that aren't deemed in accordance with policy, according to a report by Dow Jones Newswires. The report cited a joint statement by the two bodies.

The report said steel, cement, polysilicon, panel-glass and wind-power equipment were among industries with excess capacity. Others that the government identified as warranting attention are aluminum, shipbuilding and soybean processing, the report said.

The new rules mean companies that don't measure up to new policy standards won't be allowed to raise funds through bond sales, initial public offerings or private placements, the report said.

China's industrial output in September outpaced the 12.3% rise in August on year, Yao Jingyuan, chief economist of the National Bureau of Statistics, was cited as saying in a weekend report. Yao didn't provide specific figures on output during the month.

Chairman Ben S. Bernanke on Asia and the Global Financial Crisis

The rise of the Asian economies since World War II has been one of the great success stories in the history of economic development. Japan's transition to an economic powerhouse was followed by the rapid ascent of the Asian tigers, and subsequently by China taking a prominent place on the world economic stage.1 Since the beginning of this decade, Asia has accounted for more than one-third of the world's economic growth, raising its share of global gross domestic product (GDP) from 28 percent to 32 percent.2 Importantly, its economic success has resulted in large-scale reductions in poverty and substantial improvements in the standards of living of hundreds of millions of people. China and India, which together account for almost 40 percent of the world's population, have seen real per capita incomes rise more than 10-fold and 3-fold, respectively, since 1980. As would be expected given the increasing size and sophistication of their economies, the nations of the region have also begun to exert a substantial influence on global economic developments and on international governance in the economic and financial spheres.

It is widely agreed that a key source of Asia's rapid advancement has been the openness of countries in the region to global trade and finance. Notwithstanding this consensus, the considerable progress of these countries in developing domestic institutions, policies, and industrial capacity--together with their strong growth in the initial phase of the ongoing global financial crisis--led some to speculate that the Asian economies had "decoupled" from the advanced economies of North America and Europe. Of course, in hindsight, given the magnitude of the shocks that have struck these advanced economies over the past two years, as well as their strong economic and financial links to Asia, it should not have been surprising that Asia was ultimately hit quite hard by the global downturn, even though the origins of the turmoil were elsewhere.

As a prelude to the papers and discussions to follow, I will provide a brief overview of the Asian experience during the global financial crisis. I will highlight the diversity of experiences, both within Asia and between Asia and other regions, and draw some inferences about the different channels through which the effects of the financial crisis were transmitted around the world. I will discuss Asia's policy response to the economic and financial consequences of the crisis. Finally, I will focus on medium-term challenges. For both Asia and the United States, perhaps the greatest medium-term challenge is to achieve more balanced growth and, in the process, to further reduce global imbalances.

Gannett's quarterly profit slides 53% results top estimates

Gannett Co. shares traded 7% higher Monday, gaining as the newspaper publisher and broadcaster reported better-than-expected third-quarter results and indicated that the advertising marketplace is improving.

The shares stood at $13.93, up 93 cents, in midday trading.

McLean, Va.-based Gannett, the largest U.S. newspaper publisher, said third-quarter profit fell 53%, as a reduction in the value of its assets, a sputtering economy and continuing print-advertising declines took a toll.

Gannett (GCI 13.90, +0.90, +6.92%) said it earned $73.8 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with $158 million, or 69 cents, in the year-ago third quarter.

Excluding asset impairments and other items of more than $29 million, Gannett would have earned $104.1 million, or 44 cents a share, in the latest three months.

Quarterly revenue fell 18% to $1.34 billion.

Analysts had been expecting a profit of 38 cents a share on revenue of $1.33 billion, according to the consensus of estimates in a survey by FactSet Research.

"We are seeing some encouraging trends in the market and believe we are solidly positioned going forward," said Gracia Martore, the company's chief financial officer, during a conference call with analysts.

Gannett continued to benefit in the September quarter from drastic cost cutting. Job cuts, the shutdown of certain facilities and lower newsprint costs all contributed.

Excluding special items, the company said, operating expenses would have been slashed by more than 20% in the latest three months.

Some analysts have been concerned that the improvement Gannett has seen as the year progresses has been primarily due to cutting costs, rather than any material improvement in advertising revenue.

"What we're seeing is incremental improvement, but no signs that the economy has changed dramatically, or that the recovery expected in 2010 will be that dramatic," said George Van Horn, senior analyst at IbisWorld Inc.

Investors are bidding the stock higher, said Van Horn, because there is an increasing confidence that at the least, Gannett's performance is "in line with a slowly recovering economy" and that its financial discipline gives the company "a bigger window of opportunity" once the market has truly returned to normal.

As a countervailing trend, Van Horn said that "even as the economy tries to work its way out of this downturn, newspapers will still be under quite a bit of revenue pressure" -- due to stiffer competition from digital news sources and and other outlets.

Ad revenue fell 28% at the company's newspapers, reflecting a 26% drop at the U.S. papers as well as a 29% decline, in British pounds, at the U.K.-based Newsquest papers.

Paid-ad pages at flagship USA Today, hampered by weakness in the travel, automotive and entertainment categories, fell to 493 from 713 in the third quarter of 2008.

Classified revenue, traditionally the main source of income for newspapers, dropped 37% from the same quarter a year ago -- the best year-over-year comparison for Gannett in 2009. Automotive classifieds fell 35%, while help-wanted dropped 56% and real estate was down 37%.

Meanwhile, quarterly revenue generated by Gannett's television stations and related assets fell to $151.5 million from $197 million, in the absence of political and Olympics-related ad spending that sparked results in the year-ago period.

Revenue paid by cable and satellite companies to retransmit the signals of Gannett TV stations tripled to $14.3 million.

Has the business established itself firmly that they will still be ahead even if there are already too many competitors?

8. Who are the people involved in the company?

Know who the investors in this company are as well as who's running it. Try to make a research on their past record. Did they have any past failure in their ventures as businessmen? Or do they have this colorful resume of success written all over it?

These things will get you ahead. Siding with the proper people will increase your chance of success in finding the right hot stock.

9. The Scandals.

Take a good look at their past deals. Crooked deals from their records are among the things to look out for. If the company you are eyeing has this kind of past, take our advice: DO NOT BUY ANY OF THEIR STOCK.

The Truth Behind Unemployment Reports

The ADP report was released today, which usually precedes the official NFP report from the BLS who is also responsible for the CPI release each month. The news was mixed. Fewer jobs were lost in September than August but the improvement was less than expected. The report showed that the U.S. lost 254K jobs versus an expected loss of 200K. This may sound negative and to a certain extent investors may be feeling a little bearish today based on that data but single news events are not reliable predictors of future price trends. This article will illustrate the importance of context behind the labor reports and why the improving trend is actually much more important than the missed expectations.Labor ADP

Note: The video accompanying this article was originally produced in 2008. The concepts apply as much now as they did then.

For traders that are unsure about the difference between ADP, NFP, BLS, CPI and a whole lot of other BS, this article should help. The NFP report tells us how many jobs were added or lost from the U.S. labor force. Obviously, a decline in jobs is a bad thing for the economy and a string of negative reports month after month is indicative of a recessionary environment. This is currently the situation in the U.S. and another very negative release is expected this week.

Employment gains or losses are actually reported twice each month; the official government source (BLS) releases its version on the first Friday of each month and a private analysis from ADP (an outsourced payroll processing firm) appears on the Wednesday before the first Friday. These reports are developed from independent data sets but with a similar methodology. The reports have a very large statistical confidence interval (not very accurate) and are subject to major revisions, however the capital markets will often experience significant volatility each report date.

The long term effects on trend can be more reliable and are easily seen in equities and other "high risk" positions like the short JPY based carry trade. In today's video I will walk through a past ADP report as we prepare for the government version on Friday. The trend is still very negative and traders should look both ways before attributing too much bullishness to "less bad" data.

Why the Dollar is Crashing Before the Fed Announcement

The US dollar broke out this week and is hitting multi-month lows against other major currencies. In particular the dollar is sinking when compared to "commodity" currencies like the kiwi (New Zealand dollar) and the aussie (Australian dollar). As reports continue to show improvements within the global economy and a Fed that won't raise rates investors are selling dollars to get into higher yielding investments. This selling may not impact the dollar's purchasing power immediately and it may actually benefit the economy further by making exports from the U.S. cheaper and more attractive to international buyers.

The U.S. dollar has two values. The first is its purchasing power. Inflation will hurt the dollar's ability to purchase goods while deflation will increase the dollar's purchasing power. During 2007-2008 there has been very limited inflation or disinflation, which can be dangerous if it turns into true deflation. The second way to value the dollar is relative to other currencies. Forex traders are constantly betting on or against the dollar versus the world's other currencies. In fact, 86% of all forex trades involve the U.S. Dollar.

One of the things that will impact the U.S. dollar's relative value against other currencies are trader's risk sentiment. When investors are very concerned about global economic risks it will gain in value as traders move into safer investments, which are often denominated in U.S. dollars. This shift of capital from risky assets to safer assets will affect the major stock indexes like the S&P 500 (.INX) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI).

Stocks are considered a "risky" investment relative to Treasury bonds or other "safer" assets. This means that when traders get worried about risk, stocks will fall and demand for the U.S. dollar will rise. This is what we are seeing currently with a sinking stock market and a rising dollar. This inverse relationship may be useful to investors looking for diversification across asset classes. How to Buy Stocks at a Discount

Option traders have an advantage over stock traders because, when the timing is right, they can buy stocks at a discount. How do they do it? They sell put options on stocks they want to own and then wait for the price to fall. Sound complicated?

Surprisingly, it's quite simple once you understand the basics. Let's start from the top and take a look at the first step you need to take to start putting this strategy to use in your own portfolio.

Step 1: Find a Stock You Want to Own

The first step to take when looking to buy stocks by selling puts is to find a stock that you would like to own. After all, in the end when you employ this strategy, you are hoping to own the stock as a part of your portfolio. And since you wouldn't just go out and buy any old stock in a standard stock trade, you shouldn't just settle for any old stock when implementing this strategy.

This may seem obvious, but when we get into the next step, you will see that if you don't start with Step 1, it is easy to be tempted to simply sell puts on the stocks that are offering the highest premium–which can be a big mistake.

When you're looking for stocks you would like to own, make sure you look for stocks with strong fundamentals–especially in turbulent markets because they have a good chance of rebounding faster than other stocks.

Step 2: Sell Put Options

Your next step to buying stocks at a discount is identifying which put option you are going to sell and then selling it. As an option seller, you have three choices when looking at which put option to sell. You can sell the at-the-money option, an out-of-the money option or an in-the-money option.

When selling puts to buy stocks, you are typically going to use an at-the-money put option. At-the-money options offer a nice balance between paying a good premium and giving you a good chance of actually having the stock put to you.

The premium you receive for selling the put option directly impacts the discount you will get on your stock purchase if the stock is put to you. The higher the premium, the better the discount. As I mentioned above, some stocks offer extremely high premiums on their put options either because the stocks are extremely volatile or everybody believes the stock is going to be moving lower. If you haven't done your homework and determined that the stock is one you would want to own, you may be tempted to go for the stock with the highest premium.

What's the Market's Next Move?

It seems that every day the market brings a familiar sector to the forefront. Yesterday it was energy again, picking up where financials and technology left off the day before. It may be a limited type of rotation, but it seems to be working as the Dow Jones Industrial average (DJI) rises to new heights.

Yesterday stocks bounced back and forth between lower and slightly lower until just before the close when higher crude oil prices drove up oil and gas equipment, drillers and refiners with a rush of buyers. Refiners were up 8%, oil and gas equipment rose 3.4%, and oil and gas drillers gained 3.2%.

And the heavy buying in energy stocks drove the rest of the market forward, closing the indices near the highs of the day.

Economic data had a big part in yesterday's trading. The New York Fed Empire State Manufacturing Index for October came in at 34.57, topping the expectation of just 17.25 versus the index for October, which was 11.5. This was the third straight increase, something that hasn't happened in almost two years.

At the close, the Dow was up 47 points to 10,063, the S&P 500 (SPX) rose 5 points to 1,097, and the Nasdaq (NASD) gained a point to close at 2,173.

The NYSE traded 1.4 billion shares with advancers over decliners by a slim margin. The Nasdaq traded 682 million shares, but decliners there were ahead by almost 3-to-2.

Crude oil futures had a big day with the November contract rising $2.40 to $77.58 a barrel after a sharp drop in U.S. gasoline stocks.

December gold fell victim to profit-taking yesterday, with the December delivery falling $14.10 and closing at $1,050.0 an ounce. The PHLX Gold/Silver Index (XAU) closed at $175.96, off $3.28.
What the Markets Are Saying

As the market closes in on the bearish resistance line at just under S&P 500 1,120, it is a good idea to take a backward look at the price movement of charts, which show the current trend lines.

The bull channel that I talk about every day began forming on April 28 at 855, and since then established five points of support with just one violation -- the sell-off from June 16 to July 8, during which prices hit the 200-day moving average for the last time.

As a result of the back-and-forth trading with prices confined in a narrow and orderly trading channel, investors were able to anticipate with an amazing degree of accuracy (for stocks) the trading zones in which to buy and sell. These zones are now so well established that any violation of them would be highly unlikely without a complete reversal in trend.

I estimate that we are now within a day or two of making a minor top at around 1,100 and could even run to the market's intermediate target of 1,120. After reaching that target, look for a reversal to the first zone of support, starting at 1,070, which is the approximate high of the last resistance point made in September. And under that, the final support at 980 to 1,010, which, if broken, could be crushing, taking prices down to the 200-day moving average at 908.

I mention the zones not because I think that they will be met, but to illustrate how deep the overall support for the current run-up in prices really is. This sort of predictability and orderliness usually means that heavy buying is moving stocks forward and upward, and that the overall advance could go on to target 1,245 with the same degree of high resolve.

Earnings to be reported include: A.O. Smith Corp, AMCOL International Corp., Asia Cement Corp., Bank of Marin Bancorp, First Horizon National Corp., Genuine Parts Co., Halliburton, Heritage Oaks Bancorp, Mattel, Prosperity BancShares and Sensient Technologies Corp.

Economic reports due: Treasury international capital flows, industrial production (the consensus expects 0.2%), and Reuters/University of Michigan consumer confidence (the consensus expects 74).

Late news: Bank of America (BAC) reported Q3 earnings of 26 cents versus an estimated 21 cents. General Electric (GE) reported 23 cents versus an estimated 20 cents. Google (GOOG) reported $5.89 versus an estimated $5.42.

Vanguard to Introduce Seven New Bond Index Funds on Nov. 2

Vanguard recently announced it will make an enormous new foray into bond indexing with what appears to be the goal of wresting control of the exchange-traded bond fund market from Barclays' iShares group and going head-to-head with planned offerings from PIMCO as well as new entries that might come from the iShares acquirer BlackRock Inc.

The seven new bond index funds that Vanguard expects to introduce on Monday, November 2 track seven Barclays Capital bond indexes and will be available in institutional fund shares, Signal shares and ETF shares.

The corporate bond funds will all have front-end loads ranging from 0.25% to 1.00%, making them pretty unattractive. I would say the bulk of assets that investors send to these funds will be going into the ETFs.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Oct 19 (Reuters) - U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned on Monday that Asian policies promoting exports could lead to a reemergence of imbalances in trade and capital flows, which some believe helped fuel the U.S. housing bubble.

Trade surpluses achieved through policies that artificially enhance domestic saving and export industries distort the allocation of resources, he said.

"To achieve more balanced and durable economic growth and to reduce the risks of financial instability, we must avoid ever-increasing and unsustainable imbalances in trade and capital flows," he said in comments prepared for delivery to a San Francisco Fed conference on Asia.

Bernanke said imbalances have narrowed following the crisis, but warned that as the global economy recovers and trade volumes rebound, global imbalances may reassert themselves.

The Fed chairman said that that Asian economies had rebounded strongly from the crisis, with annualized growth rates in the double digits expected in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.

"At this point, while risks to the economic outlook certainly remain, Asia appears to be leading the global recovery," he said.

Countries with the most open economies, such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan took the biggest hits as a result of the turmoil, he said. China, India, and Indonesia, which are "among the least financially open" economies, expanded throughout the crisis, Bernanke said.

However, while conceding that greater global integration increases vulnerability to world-wide economic shocks, he said greater openness would promote stronger growth over the longer term.

The Week Ahead: Markets recoiled Friday after an unexpected drop in October consumer sentiment and a reported $1.4 trillion budget deficit. In addition, Bank of America's $1 billion loss and GE's reduced bottom line versus a year ago did not help. Watch the PPI report along with the housing starts number on Tuesday. Jobless claims are due on Thursday along with September's Leading Economic Indicators from the Conference Board. Existing home sales are released on Friday.

Stocks to Watch: Apple Computer (AAPL) will release its widely anticipated quarterly results on Monday. Other significant earnings reports include Boeing (BA), Ebay (EBAY), and Wells Fargo (WFC) all released on Wednesday. Cytec Industries (CYT), a specialty chemical producer, beat estimates for Q3 by .23 and increased full year guidance for '09 as the stock regained levels last reached in October '08. Cryptologic Limited (CRYP) which develops internet gaming software sank hard after forecasting a Q3 trading loss of $3.4 million.

Special Note: Stock indexes look to complete very near term peaks in momentum as prices approach and push into strong upside resistance between 10,100 and 10,400 on the Dow Industrials, 1100-1125 on the S&P 500, and 2200-2250 on the Nasdaq. The timeframe for these moves could be from now until mid November. Another technical warning comes from the 10-day CBOE total U.S. equity/index put call ratio which has dropped to .755 near levels reached at the 2007 top.

توقعات بانكماش التجارة العالمية 10%

رجحت منظمة التجارة العالمية في تقرير لها صدر اليوم أن تمنى التعاملات التجارية الدولية بانكماش نسبته 10% خلال العام الجاري، جراء استمرار تداعيات الأزمة المالية العالمية.

ويؤكد تقرير المنظمة تصريحات سابقة كان قد أدلى بها المدير العام للمنظمة باسكال لامي في يونيو/حزيران الماضي توقع خلالها حدوث انكماش بالتجارة العالمية بنسبة 9%.

وطمأنت المنظمة العالم بأن التجارة ستعود للانتعاش ولكن بقيادة دول آسيوية تشهد تجارتها عودة للنمو.

وفي مؤتمر صحفي عقده لامي في سنغافورة اليوم عقب حضوره اجتماعا لدول منتدى التعاون الاقتصادي لآسيا والمحيط الهادي (أبك) قال إن المعطيات الاقتصادية تشير إلى أن دولا آسيوية ربما تقود انتعاشا في التجارة الدولية.

وأبدى المسؤولون التجاريون خلال اجتماع أبك تفاؤلا حذرا تجاه آفاق التصدير في بلادهم، في حين أشارت الصين التي تقود الآمال في انتعاش اقتصادي مؤقت إلى أن صادراتها ربما تشهد تراجعا أقل خلال النصف الثاني من العام.

وقالت منظمة التجارة العالمية في تقريرها إن صادرات العالم من السلع التجارية زادت بنسبة 15% بصورة رمزية خلال عام 2008 لتصل إلى 15.78 تريليون دولار.

وأشار التقرير إلى زيادة حجم التجارة بنسبة حقيقية بلغت 2% عام 2008 بعد ارتفاع بلغ 6% عام 2007.

وأفادت المنظمة أن نصيب صادرات الدول النامية من التجارة العالمية زاد إلى مستوى قياسي في العام الماضي بلغ 38%.

وبين تقرير المنظمة أن ألمانيا احتفظت العام الماضي بكونها أكبر مصدر للسلع حيث بلغت قيمة صادراتها 1.47 تريليون دولار، متفوقة على الصين بشكل طفيف التي بلغ إجمال صادراتها 1.43 تريليون دولار.

صعود الذهب وتراجع الدولار استقرار النفط وانتعاش أسواق آسيا

ظل سعر النفط مستقرا فوق 65 دولارا للبرميل في تعاملات اليوم الخميس والتي شهدت انتعاشا ملحوظا لأسواق الأسهم الآسيوية. وشهدت تعاملات اليوم أيضا تراجع الدولار وارتفاع سعر الذهب.

وارتفع سعر العقود الآجلة للخام الأميركي تسليم سبتمبر/ أيلول المقبلة بنسبة 1% خلال التعاملات الإلكترونية في آسيا، وبلغ 65.41 دولارا.

وكان سعر الخام الأميركي قد أغلق الأربعاء في نفس مستوى السعر المسجل اليوم تقريبا.

وفي الوقت نفسه ارتفع قليلا سعر خام القياس الأوروبي، وظل فوق مستوى 67 دولارا للبرميل.

وفسر محللون استقرار أسعار الذهب الأسود، بييانات أظهرت تراجع مخزون الخام في الولايات المتحدة في مقابل ارتفاع مخزونات البنزين والمشتقات النفطية.

وقال أحد المحللين في آسيا إن الأرقام التي نشرتها إدارة الطاقة الأميركية جاءت -على الرغم من تناقضها مع أرقام معهد البترول الأميركي- متوافقة مع ما توقعه المتعاملون "مما أعاد بعض القوة إلى السوق".

في الأثناء أغلقت معظم أسواق الأسهم الآسيوية على ارتفاعات متفاوتة، مدعومة بآمال بانتعاش أكبر الاقتصادات العالمية من اليابان إلى الولايات المتحدة.

وحققت الأسهم الصينية اليوم أعلى مستوى إقفال منذ 13 شهرا، مدفوعة بنتائج قطاعي المال والعقارات.

بدورها أغلقت الأسهم اليابانية على ارتفاع في حدود 1%، على ضوء بيانات ذكرت أن الصادرات اليابانية تراجعت الشهر الماضي بأدنى نسبة خلال ستة أشهر وأيضا لضعف الين الياباني.

وشمل صعود الأسهم أسواقا أخرى في آسيا على شاكلة هونغ كونغ وكوريا الجنوبية والهند وأستراليا.

وحققت الأسهم الأوروبية مكاسب طفيفة لكنها ظلت بشكل عام مستقرة، في حين أن الأسهم الأميركية كانت قد أغلقت الأربعاء على تباين.

الذهب والدولار
من جهة أخرى ارتفع سعر الذهب اليوم الخميس في لندن إلى أعلى مستوى في ستة أسابيع، مسجلا أكثر من 956 دولارا للأوقية (الأونصة) مع تراجع الدولار لأدنى مستوى بسبعة أسابيع مقابل اليورو.

وكان سعر الأوقية قد بلغ في الجلسة السابقة بلندن 948.25 دولارا للأوقية.

وساهمت مكاسب الأسهم الأوروبية في بداية تعاملات الخميس في تعزيز شهية المستثمرين للأصول التي تعتبر عالية المخاطر.

وخلال التعاملات الأوروبية اليوم، ارتفع مجددا سعر صرف اليورو مقابل الدولار بواقع 0.3%. وبهذا التراجع الجديد اقترب الدولار من أدنى مستوى سعري له في سبعة أسابيع في مقابل اليورو وسلة عملات أخرى.

تراجع أرباح مايكروسوفت

أعلنت شركة مايكروسوفت -عملاق صناعة البرمجيات في العالم- أن مبيعاتها بلغت 13.1 مليار دولار في الربع الأخير من العام المالي الماضي، وهو أقل بقليل من توقعات وول ستريت التي تجاوزت 14 مليار دولار.

وانخفضت أرباح الشركة -ومقرها ردموند بواشنطن- في الربع المذكور بواقع 29%، وسط تراجع الطلب على حزمة برنامج "أوفيس" ونظام التشغيل "ويندوز".

كما تراجعت المبيعات السنوية لنظام التشغيل ويندوز للمرة الأولى على الإطلاق، مع استمرار تضرر أنشطة الشركة من ضعف الأسواق العالمية للحواسيب الشخصية والشبكات، الأمر الذي دفع أسهم الشركة للهبوط 8%.

وتستعد مايكروسوفت لإطلاق أحدث نسخة من نظامها للتشغيل "ويندوز7" يوم 22 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول المقبل.

وقال المدير المالي بالشركة في كريس "تأثرت أعمالنا سلبا بسبب الضعف في أسواق الحواسيب الشخصية والخوادم"، مضيفا "ما زلنا نتوقع أحوالا صعبة للفترة الباقية من العام الحالي".

وتواجه مايكروسوفت تحديات عديدة منها تباطؤ مبيعات الحواسيب الشخصية، ونمو مبيعات الحواسيب المحمولة الرخيصة التي يستخدم بها برمجيات أرخص سعرا، فضلا عن العديد من البدائل المجانية والرخيصة مقارنة بمنتجاتها من البرمجيات.

ولم تقدم الشركة أملا يذكر بتحول إيجابي في قطاع التقنية حتى العام القادم رغم التفاؤل الذي أبداه مؤخرا منافساها إنترناشيونال بزنس ماشينز (إيبيام) وإنتل كورب.

النفط يتراجع عن 67 دولارا للبرميل في التعاملات الاسيوية

سنغافورة (رويترز) - تراجعت اسعار النفط للعقود الاجلة عن مستوى 67 دولارا للبرميل في التعاملات الاسيوية يوم الجمعة بعد ان قفزت في اليوم السابق حوالي 3 في المئة الي أعلى مستوى لها في ثلاثة اسابيع بفعل نتائج ايجابية اعلنتها شركات امريكية وبيانات قوية لسوق المساكن في امريكا.

واعطت تلك النتائج والبيانات دفعة لفكرة ان الاقتصاد الامريكي ماض على الطريق نحو الانتعاش لكن نتائح صدرت في وقت متأخر عن شركات مايكروسوفت وامازون وامريكان اكسبريس كانت أقل ايجابية.

وساعدت الامال بان انتعاشا اقتصاديا في أكبر مستهلك للطاقة في العالم سيثير بدوره انتعاشا للطلب على النفط في صعود اسعار الخام بنسبة 14 في المئة منذ ان هبطت الي أدنى مستوى لها في شهرين في منتصف يوليو تموز.

وتراجع الخام الامريكي الخفيف للعقود تسليم سبتمبر ايلول 51 سنتا الي 66.65 دولار للبرميل بحلول الساعة 0330 بتوقيت جرينتش بعد ان قفز 1.76 دولار يوم الخميس ليسجل في التسويات ببورصة نيويورك التجارية (نايمكس) 67.16 دولار للبرميل وهو أعلى مستوى منذ الاول من يوليو.

وانخفض خام القياس الاوروبي مزيج برنت 38 سنتا الي 68.87 دولار للبرميل

لجنة البورصات الامريكية ترفع دعوى قضائية على رجل أعمال كويتي

(رويترز) - رفعت لجنة الاوراق المالية والبورصات في الولايات المتحدة دعوى قضائية يوم الخميس على الكويتي حازم خالد البريكان الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة الراية للاستثمار فيما يتعلق بتحقيق مكاسب من تعاملات مريبة بعد نشر اعلان كاذب عن عمليات استحواذ دفعت أسهم شركتين أمريكيتين للارتفاع.

ومن المتوقع أن يكون للدعوى القضائية ضد البريكان تداعيات كبيرة في أوساط الاعمال والاستثمار في الشرق الاوسط.

والبريكان هو الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة الراية للاستثمار التي تملك مجموعة سيتي جروب حصة عشرة بالمئة فيها وهو شخصية بارز في الاوساط المالية في الشرق الاوسط ويرتدي الزي الخليجي التقليدي ويتحدث الانجليزية بطلاقة وهو من الشخصيات البارزة في مجتمع المال والاعمال في الكويت.

وقالت لجنة الاوراق المالية والبورصات الامريكية في وثائق رفعتها لمحكمة اتحادية في مانهاتن ان البريكان وكيانات مرتبطة به في الكويت البحرين كسبت أكثر من خمسة ملايين دولار من تعاملات تم اختيار توقيتها بعناية في أسهم شركتي هرمان انترناشيونال اينداستريز وتكستورن.

وفي واشنطن قال سكوت فريستاد المسؤول باللجنة "هذا يمثل مخالفة فجة."

وأضاف ان التحقيق بدأ فور العلم بالاعلان الكاذب يوم الاثنين في الوقت نفسه الذي علمت فيه وسائل الاعلام.

وأضاف "لدينا فريق من خمسة أو ستة أشخاص يعملون على مدار الساعة منذ يومين في جمع الادلة."

وحصلت اللجنة على أمر محكمة طاريء أمس الخميس بتجميد الارباح التجارية في العديد من الحسابات الامريكية.

وافادت شكوى اللجنة "المتهمون شاركوا في عملية خداع للتربح من تعاملات بعد اعلان كاذب عن عروض لشراء هرمان انترناشيونال وتكستورن."
وأفادت وثائق اللجنة كذلك انهم تربحوا من تكوين مراكز كبيرة في أسهم وخيارات في الشركتين.

وارتفعت أسهم هرمان لفترة وجيزة يوم الاثنين الماضي بعد أن ذكرت عدة وسائل اعلام ان شركة عربية للاستثمار في الاسهم تعتزم شراءها بضعف سعر السهم في السوق.

وتشبه هذه الواقعة عرضا كاذبا لشراء تكسترون في ابريل نيسان الماضي من جانب كونسورتيوم من شركات اماراتية.

وتلقت وسائل اعلام منها رويترز رسالة بالفاكس من صفحة واحدة يوم الاحد تعلن العرض المزعوم من رقم فاكس يشير الى انه صادر من الكويت.

ولم تحدد اللجنة من ارسل الفاكس أو من نشر الخبر عن عرض تكستورن الكاذب.

الاسهم اليابانية تقفز في التعاملات المبكرة

طوكيو (رويترز) - قفزت الاسهم اليابانية في التعاملات المبكرة يوم الجمعة مدعومة بتزايد التفاؤل بشان انتعاش الاقتصاد الامريكي بعد ان دفعت ارباح قوية للشركات وتعافي مبيعات المساكن في امريكا مؤشر داو جونز القياسي للاسهم الامريكية للاغلاق عند أعلى مستوى له منذ يناير كانون الثاني.

وصعدت اسهم شركتي سوني كورب وشارب كورب لصناعة الاجهزة الالكترونية بأكثر من 2 في المئة بعد ان قالت صحيفة نيكي المتخصصة في قطاع الاعمال ان من المرجح ان تستثمر سوني أكثر من 100 مليار ين (1.1 مليار دولار) في مشروع لانتاج شاشات العرض التلفزيوني البلورية السائلة (ال سي دي) ستقيمه مع شارب.

وارتفع مؤشر نيكي القياسي لاسهم الشركات اليابانية الكبرى 126.19 نقطة أي بنسبة 1.3 في المئة الي 9919.13 نقطة في الدقائق العشر الاولى للتعاملات ببورصة طوكيو.

وزاد مؤشر توبكس الاوسع نطاقا 1.34 في المئة الى 920.61 نقطة.

موسكو (رويترز) - قال مصدر من وزارة المالية الروسية لرويترز يوم الجمعة ان ميزانية عام 2010 التي تدور حولها مناقشات حامية تتضمن خططا لاقتراض 18 مليار دولار من الخارج لكنه لم يحدد حجم الاقتراض الداخلي.

وكانت الميزانية ونطاق خطط الاقتراض قد شهدت مناقشات حامية اذ تسعى الحكومة للتوصل الى أفضل السبل لتمويل مستويات الانفاق المرتفعة المطلوبة لمساعدة الاقتصاد على الخروج من الكساد.

وأضاف المصدر انه سيتم تمويل العجز كذلك عن طريق 1.55 تريليون روبل من صندوق الاحتياطي و680 مليار روبل من صندوق الثروة القومية.

وعلى جانب الايرادات فان زيادة مقترحة في التعريفات الجمركية على صادرات الغاز ستحقق ايرادات قدرها 53 مليار روبل وزيادة في رسوم استخراج الغاز ستضيف سبعة مليارات روبل.

الاكوادور توقع عقدا لتصدير النفط الي الصين

يتو (رويترز) - قالت شركة النفط الاكوادورية المملوكة للدولة يوم الخميس ان الاكوادور وقعت اتفاقا لتصدير النفط الخام الي الصين ستحصل بمقتضاه على مليار دولار مدفوعة مقدما.

وقالت الشركة في بيان ان العقد الذي وقعته مع شركة بترو تشاينا انترناشيونال المملوكة للدولة مدته عامان. واضافت انها ستحصل على المليار دولار في الاسبوع الاول من اغسطس اب.

وقال البيان انه بمقتضى بنود العقد وافقت الاكوادور العضو بمنظمة اوبك على تصدير حوالي ثلاثة ملايين برميل من النفط شهريا الى الصين.

وقالت شركة النفط الاكوادورية ان مبلغ المليار دولار يمثل 28 في المئة تقريبا من القيمة الاجمالية للنفط الذي وافقت الاكوادور على تصديره الي الصين.

وأنتجت الاكوادور أكثر من 485 ألف برميل يوميا من النفط الخام في مايو ايار.

وقال وزير السياسة الاقتصادية دييجو بورجا في وقت سابق من هذا الاسبوع ان الاكوادور تتفاوض ايضا مع الصين على قرض قيمته مليار دولار.

وقد يساعد الاتفاقان الحكومة الاكوادورية على ضخ سيولة في الاقتصاد بعد ان تراجعت ايرادات التصدير بشدة في النصف الاول من العام بسبب انخفاض اسعار النفط

Gold has been associated with the extremities of utmost evil and great sanctity throughout history. In the Book of Exodus, the Golden Calf is a symbol of idolatry and rebellion against God. In Communist propaganda, the golden pocket watch and its fastening golden chain were the characteristic accessories of the class enemy, the bourgeois and the industrial tycoons. Credit card companies associate their product with wealth by naming and coloring their top-of-the-range cards "gold;" although, in an attempt to out-do each other, platinum (and the even-more-elite black card) has now overtaken gold.

On the other hand in the Book of Genesis, Abraham was said to be rich in gold and silver, and Moses was instructed to cover the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant with pure gold. Eminent orators such as John Chrysostom were said to have a "mouth of gold with a silver tongue." Gold is associated with notable anniversaries, particularly in a 50-year cycle, such as a golden wedding anniversary, golden jubilee, etc.

Great human achievements are frequently rewarded with gold, in the form of medals and decorations. Winners of races and prizes are usually awarded the gold medal (such as the Olympic Games and the Nobel Prize), while many award statues are depicted in gold (such as the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards the Emmy Awards, the Palme d'Or, and the British Academy Film Awards).

Medieval kings were inaugurated under the signs of sacred oil and a golden crown, the latter symbolizing the eternal shining light of heaven and thus a Christian king's divinely inspired authority. Wedding rings are traditionally made of gold; since it is long-lasting and unaffected by the passage of time, it is considered a suitable material for everyday wear as well as a metaphor for the relationship. In Orthodox Christianity, the wedded couple is adorned with a golden crown during the ceremony, an amalgamation of symbolic rites.

The symbolic value of gold varies greatly around the world, even within geographic regions. For example, gold is quite common in Turkey but considered a most valuable gift in Sicily.

It has become fashionable to toss copyright, patents, and trademarks — three separate and different entities involving three separate and different sets of laws — into one pot and call it "intellectual property". The distorting and confusing term did not arise by accident. Companies that gain from the confusion promoted it. The clearest way out of the confusion is to reject the term entirely.

According to Professor Mark Lemley, now of the Stanford Law School, the widespread use of the term "intellectual property" is a fashion that followed the 1967 founding of the World "Intellectual Property" Organization, and only became really common in recent years. (WIPO is formally a UN organization, but in fact represents the interests of the holders of copyrights, patents, and trademarks.)

The term carries a bias that is not hard to see: it suggests thinking about copyright, patents and trademarks by analogy with property rights for physical objects. (This analogy is at odds with the legal philosophies of copyright law, of patent law, and of trademark law, but only specialists know that.) These laws are in fact not much like physical property law, but use of this term leads legislators to change them to be more so. Since that is the change desired by the companies that exercise copyright, patent and trademark powers, the bias of "intellectual property" suits them.

The bias is enough reason to reject the term, and people have often asked me to propose some other name for the overall category — or have proposed their own alternatives (often humorous). Suggestions include IMPs, for Imposed Monopoly Privileges, and GOLEMs, for Government-Originated Legally Enforced Monopolies. Some speak of "exclusive rights regimes", but referring to restrictions as "rights" is doublethink too.

Some of these alternative names would be an improvement, but it is a mistake to replace "intellectual property" with any other term. A different name will not address the term's deeper problem: overgeneralization. There is no such unified thing as "intellectual property"—it is a mirage. The only reason people think it makes sense as a coherent category is that widespread use of the term gives that impression.

The term "intellectual property" is at best a catch-all to lump together disparate laws. Non-lawyers who hear one term applied to these various laws tend to assume they are based on a common principle, and function similarly.

Nothing could be further from the case. These laws originated separately, evolved differently, cover different activities, have different rules, and raise different public policy issues.

Copyright law was designed to promote authorship and art, and covers the details of expression of a work. Patent law was intended to promote the publication of useful ideas, at the price of giving the one who publishes an idea a temporary monopoly over it—a price that may be worth paying in some fields and not in others.

Dubai's prince has instructed the Italian architect David Fisher to work on the blue prints for a environmentally friendly wind electricity generating shape shifting skyscraper.
The 420-meter (1,378-foot) building’s apartments would spin a full 360 degrees, at voice command, around a central column by means of 79 giant power-generating wind turbines located between each floor. The skyscraper will cost an estimated $700m to build and should be up and running in Dubai in 2010.
I wonder if I'll ever be able to visit it in the near future but I will tell you for sure, its not some thing to miss.

According to the theory of evolution every living organism evolve into new forms by mutations when the processes of natural selection filters the mutations and only allow carriers of beneficial ones to survive passing on the new genes to the next generations.
How ever due to the superior intelligence of human being natural selection is being manipulated some times to create a form of artificial selection.
As an example IVF In vitro fertilization (the process of fertilizing an egg with a sperm outside the body) has caused a huge amount of people who are suffering from genetically oriented infertile problems to actually have kids who are most likely to inherit the infertile genes.

This manipulation of the mechanism that nature depends on has caused countries like Australia to suffer a lot from population loss.
So just imagine a future where humans cant multiply except in the lab and that is just one example.
Imagine what will be the evolutionary out come of a society where the intelligent intellectual would have the least reproductive activity.

Sexism and Islam

I know most of me readers wouldn’t agree with me on this post but I would like them to approach my point of view neutrally and objectively and please know that any comments are welcomed.

Hijab is the Islamic symbol of pure harsh unscientific discrimination between genders, and for most Muslims its their false sign of ultimate morality, as any one tries to objectively explore the religious logic behind it (if there is any actual logic) he/she will be confronted with the flawed argument that says that woman body is tempting as if man’s body isn’t?

They claim that without this little scarf a woman would be in an over revealing state and would be sending an invite for every man to come and help him self and therefore I decided to put this argument up to the test.

My first point is why they consider revealing beauty is immoral, if they claim that god has created beauty for people to enjoy it, why would he want us to hide his so called master piece.

The second point is if the woman’s body is so tempting how come in such countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran where hijab is forced upon people is there still rape, sex before marriage and other fanatical habits that emerged due to the unnatural environment between both genders caused by forcing hijab.

The third point is do you really believe that only women’s bodies are attractive and men’s bodies aren’t attractive and tempting, I thing many people world wide would not agree.

The last point is what kind of moral code that oblige wearing a piece of clothe in order for people to be moral and why? Simply because god said so, a god that no religion has yet presented any actual evidence for his existence.

As for my own personal opinion I find wearing it or not any where and every where is totally a matter of personal freedom and belief while forcing it is an unforgivable crime against humanity and freedom.

I would also like to mention that hijab is just a representing symbol of the discrimination between genders which could be found in the very foundation of the Islamic scripture since it’s a fact that Quran has allowed men to have up to 4 multiple wifes (only if he can be just between them) while women are only aldlowed to have one husband no matter what and its also a fact that women in Quran are requested to obey their husbands while husbands have to respect them.

Does obey and respect sound equal to you? At least not to me it doesn’t. Obey and respect sound much closer to a merciful master and a brain washed slave to me.

And lots and lots of facts such as divorce privileges given to males, work permits requirement from husbands and fathers in order for a female to work and at last and the unjust inheritance cut given to females.

After long observation I concluded that sexism that was introduced in the judo-Christian religions was carried on and increased in the Islamic believe but for the sack of the few who still listen to logic and reason I would like to state the fact that there is women who changed the face of earth, women like Marie Curie and Ayn Rand that if not for them we wouldn’t be where we are now.

Do we really need organized religions to divide us and enforce an imaginary being to tell us what to do and what not to?

I was terrorized and forced away from my home land in Palestine because Jews think that they are god’s favorite little fu***rs and that he promised them my own land.

Please take your god away; I can’t stand him any more.

Every blogger should have heard about traffic exchange services, its services that allow you to earn credits from visiting other member’s blogs who will return you the favour in the same way.
But before I start talking about the advantages I want to be honest in promoting the truth about their disadvantages:

So today is the day the human race celebrates the day the tallest peak in the world, Everest, was scaled. Boy are we blind. We are living in a world that destroys a civilization over monetary gains like petroleum but sits and complains when millions are slaughtered by truly violent regimes. Saddam we know was Satan incarnate and he had to be removed but Senior General Than Shwe of Burma is considered not special enough to be raped. The hypocrisy of the people in power is sickening, and if the morons that voted for them are satisfied by seeing one or two Muslim nations razed than they must complain when they are targeted as public enemies. In my opinion when civilians of countries invading other countries are attacked, they should stop and think what they did to deserve the destruction. EntreCard: hating occupation isn’t allowed

Most of bloggers these days have heard of the advertising tool Entrecard.com which I was using myself in this blog until yesterday when an advertiser declined an advertisement request for Baza of Gaza explaining: “I really like your blog, but I can't run an ad with a swaztika on it. I'm not fan of Israel, but I like the Jews.”

Taking into consideration that my banner had the Israeli flag = the Nazi flag with the sentence (exposing today’s Nazis) underneath it.

Obviously the advertiser didn’t get the idea of the banner that points to the similarities between both regimes and he thought its an advertisement for a raciest Nazi blog but the real shock was when I received this e-mail moments later: “ Your account 'Baza of Gaza' on entrecard.com has been deleted. The administrator gave the following reason:

We do not allow hate blogs here

please contact support@entrecard.com if you have any questions regarding this action.”

So it’s either that entrecard staff are super dump not to get the point of the add or they think that hating occupation isn’t appropriate and the dream of freedom is immoral by their biased standards.

I even recall reading a post on a blog listed on entrecard titled “go Israel kill them all” and another one “atheists should all die” so how does entrecard major hate I DON’T KNOW???

I know the banner’s idea could be a matter of opinion but I expect my opinion to be respected so ill pass judgment to my readers and ask you to answer the simple question: Do you think that Baza of Gaza is a hate blog?

Since 1999 trustees of the Martha Gellhorn Prize Cynthia Kee, James Fox, Jeremy Harding, John Hatt, Sandy Matthews and John Pilger took on them the responsibility of awarding journalists who in their work “has penetrated the established version of events and told an unpalatable truth, validated by powerful facts, that exposes establishment propaganda, or ‘official drivel’, as Martha Gellhorn called it.”

Recently the Palestinian photographer/journalist Mohammed Omer from Gaza strip and American journalist Dahr Jamail from Texas won the Martha Gellhorn prize 2008 with their extraordinary work as unembedded reporters who report the truth away from the global news organizations bias.

Omer’s entries (I Want To Live) and (Olmert, I Want My Daddy!) and Jamail’s many entries in his blog or his book (beyond the green zone) were truly remarkable and represented the voice of the voiceless forgotten ones in Palestine and Iraq.

As for Omer this wasn’t his first journalism award. In 2006 he won the first annual National Ethnic Media Award for Best Youth Voice for his entry (Sharon, Why Did You Destroy My House?).

I hereby would like to thank them for their effort in setting right what once went wrong and for raising the international awareness of the situation in the middel east and I would like to also recommend my readers to read their entries.

Celebration - Is That Really What It's Called?

Today is the day that marks 60 years since the creation of the state of Israel. I am disgusted by the fact that it is labeled as a celebration, but as so many of you might say, I am biased, and I agree, being on the losing side makes me ever so bitter and twisted. But let us remember the drowned out voices of Jews themselves who disagree with a notion the entire world is being coerced to believe.

We're not celebrating Israel's anniversary

In May, Jewish organisations will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. This is understandable in the context of centuries of persecution culminating in the Holocaust. Nevertheless, we are Jews who will not be celebrating. Surely it is now time to acknowledge the narrative of the other, the price paid by another people for European anti-semitism and Hitler's genocidal policies. As Edward Said emphasised, what the Holocaust is to the Jews, the Naqba is to the Palestinians.

In April 1948, the same month as the infamous massacre at Deir Yassin and the mortar attack on Palestinian civilians in Haifa's market square, Plan Dalet was put into operation. This authorised the destruction of Palestinian villages and the expulsion of the indigenous population outside the borders of the state. We will not be celebrating.

In July 1948, 70,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes in Lydda and Ramleh in the heat of the summer with no food or water. Hundreds died. It was known as the Death March. We will not be celebrating.

In all, 750,000 Palestinians became refugees. Some 400 villages were wiped off the map. That did not end the ethnic cleansing. Thousands of Palestinians (Israeli citizens) were expelled from the Galilee in 1956. Many thousands more when Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza. Under international law and sanctioned by UN resolution 194, refugees from war have a right to return or compensation. Israel has never accepted that right. We will not be celebrating.

We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state founded on terrorism, massacres and the dispossession of another people from their land. We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state that even now engages in ethnic cleansing, that violates international law, that is inflicting a monstrous collective punishment on the civilian population of Gaza and that continues to deny to Palestinians their human rights and national aspirations.

We will celebrate when Arab and Jew live as equals in a peaceful Middle East.

It doesn’t take a PhD to spot a fake when they come across one. The most influential society of our time happens to be the fakest, and that’s obvious to us all. Nowadays “reality” TV is more dramatic than a soap opera. An actor representing the average Joe is more ripped than a rape victim’s dress, and the “girl next door” sports a porn star body and face meant for the big screen. Normally one might think deceptive television would be harmless, in fact it would be pointless if television wasn’t a bit unreal and imaginative. However in today’s society where minds are weak and impressionable and naivety rules, the damage done by false TV is harmful in many ways. It’s making future generations crazy; they are putting too much weight on appearances and have forgotten intellect. They think wars are easily fought and always won, and the cool factor assigned to what we used to consider taboo has unleashed an array of bad behaviour from all demographics. Superficiality is suppressing true potential. Maybe it’s time the society, where even the news is illusory, teaches their youth not to believe everything they see.

Lebanon: beautiful, rare, varied, welcoming.
The government: a bunch of out-dated, self-centred, hypocritical, religiously pious tyrants.

The fault lies within, that is obvious, but it made the country an attractive target for external forces to mould the soft state of the situation to the advantage of those interfering in the region. Hezbollah is a terrorist group, it might undeniable, but the fact is that this group did it’s utmost to defend the entire country when it was on its knees. They did more than any other group did to suppress the illegitimate destruction of an innocent and helpless nation. The world blamed Hezbollah for starting the fight but the conniving Israeli Defence Force retaliated against an easier target, all of Lebanon. What exactly did Hezbollah do that warranted the 20 year set back the Israeli campaign caused? They kidnapped a few short-sighted Israeli soldiers who happened to be patrolling inches away from the border with Lebanon, a certified hot-spot. One might view the Israeli reaction as valorous, to risk so much for so little, and that opinion might have held water had anyone posed the question of what the hell happened to those soldiers since? If the goal was to get them back, then nothing was achieved. 30 days of bombing, 60 bridges brought down, countless roads, buildings neighbourhoods and towns destroyed, and an exodus of thousands, all in the midst of what was set to be the best summer for Lebanon since the 70’s. It was worth the freedom of a few Israeli soldiers, who with all their artillery and training couldn’t defend themselves, to have an excuse to literally take out the competition. In the eyes of Israel it was certainly worth the lives of the thousands of Lebanese civilians lost to ensure the socio-political and economic failure of what could be a competitive market.

We can spend all our lives pinning the tail on the donkey known as Israel, but they do not carry the burden of blame alone. The rest of the world stood by and watched, they might have commented on the inhumanity but never without putting all the blame on Hezbollah. Now all that’s left is a leaderless country on the brink of repeating a civil war that even animals would have more sense not to repeat. The icing on the cake is that the weak natured Lebanese government thinks they stand a chance against what even the almighty IDF was unable to break.

We keep starting fights we can’t win and if we don’t learn to talk first, then we might as well hand the country over to those who might appreciate it because all parties currently involved are to blame for the disaster Lebanon has become.

It’s about that time again, time to pick the new leader of the free world. Just for the sake of clarity I would prefer to label the new president of the United States as leader of the pseudo-free world and annihilator of the less fortunate, just because it sounds cooler, and let’s be honest, what true freedom exists in the States when I can’t even say Merry Christmas without offending a Jew or two and probably ending up in shackles.

So it’s time for y’all to decide who is gonna make the rest of the world hate your guts for the next four years. For what some might consider one of the most important decisions of the year, the American public seem to treat elections ever so immaturely. When choosing one’s leader, one must account for the decisions the chosen individual might make under duress, their ability to think straight in times of crisis, their capacity to assess a situation logically and from such an assessment, arrive at a generally beneficial conclusion. If you happen to pick your president based on what they smoked 25 years prior, or who pleasured their spouse orally in the oval office, or even what their spiritual leader said about another race, then you’d best vote not for national elections but rather poll on the best soap opera character in America. Understand people, just because you see it on TV, it doesn’t make it a good foundation to base your choice on, propaganda is LSD to society.

When our opinions are swayed by jingles of McCain singing “bomb Iran!” or “mistakes” of CNN relating Obama to Osama because they sound similar, the idiocy of the general public is made apparent. Unfortunately the candidates know how weak the human brain can be and they have made a habit of capitalizing on our inherent stupidity by commercializing themselves to win votes. When informing the public of their advantages fails they tend to sway to the more devious “slander your opponent” tactic which seems to fair better with a nation born and raised on unreal-reality TV because talking trash rocks!!!!

When zero hour arrives and it is time to make the fateful decision, try something new, think! Is it that America enjoys being the world’s clown? Most powerful nation on earth but when you pick a retard for president you’re bound to get laughed at, fortunately you are now pros at drowning out our laughter with gunfire, cries of death, destruction and mayhem.

Fighting global warming with pollution

The journal Nature published the findings of a group of scientists consisting of Dr Peter Doran and his colleagues at the University of Illinois, the researchers took temperature readings and found temperatures in the Antarctic have been getting slightly colder for the last 30 years and guess why….. Air pollution.

An atmospheric scientist professor Don Collins from NASA proposed after years of study that limited amount of aerosol pollutants in the air could partially counteract global warming, "As the atmosphere becomes more polluted by man's activities, more sunlight may be reflected back into space, leading to a cooling effect on Earth's climate, Although this cooling won't be enough to offset global warming over the entire Earth, it will compete with warming effects on a small scale.” Collins said.

Dr. Arthur Robinson a chemist from the Oregon Institute of Science wrote a whole book promoting the logical findings that says that CO2 and methane hold onto heat and some sulfur-based compounds/particles reflect incoming sunlight which all of course main components of our daily gas releases while CFCs that catalyze the decomposition of Ozone, therefore CFCs is the component that we don’t want in our pollution. "There is absolutely not a shred of evidence that humans are causing any change in the climate by generating CO2," Robinson said.

So if you don’t mind acidic rain lets reduce global warming (at a local small scale at least), all what we have to do is cut down on releasing CFCs (get rid of that old rusty fridge you stingy a**whole) and increase releasing CO2 out of our cars and factories.

Beating the Dead Dog

It is the average Joe’s impression that all the Muslims of the world want to get their hands on a big old bomb to blow the good old state o’ Israel to kingdom come, (where it technically belongs). Western media continue to reiterate that flawed idea. One would have to be seriously narrow-minded not to see media bias these days, but it’s almost not bias anymore. It has evolved into a kind of censorship, combined with forced reporting of every hiccup made by anyone close to being Muslim. Censorship as in Israel’s nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons capability never being analyzed by mainstream media. Iran, however, even thinking of nuclear power has created its own television time-slot. In the name of fair-play, should Iran not be allowed the opportunity to advance to the stages of the countries of its region without making the headlines every night?

So instead of reporting, repeating and not letting go of the fact that the most powerful nations of the world are the ones responsible for most of the destruction, the news media prefer to magnify the aspirations of the struggling nations labeled terrorism friendly. Give us all the news. Instead of repeating what everybody expects to hear, give us the truth, uncut, uncensored, and un-biased, then maybe the viewer can get a clear idea of what is going on.

It’s beyond the point of argument that any group of people in a civilized society need to have an organization that governs their relationships and protect them from each other but unfortunately we have gone too far in the execution of the idea as we forgot why?
Isn’t it the need of the individual that brought up communities and governments, yet every day the minority of the individual is stepped own by order and the greater good.
Is there a point where your voice will be heard and your existence will be accredited.
A point where your own happiness and your own ambition would be appreciated.

How stimulating! Comical yet tragic, sort of like global politics. I watch this and I just picture military leaders thinking out loud, and it goes a little something like this: “go my precious little minions, you may not be of the highest intellectual caliber, but you sure take a bullet like a trooper, and with the right tools boy can you mow down them civilians, that’ll put the fear of democracy into their blackened hearts, and hey if I happen to get a ‘lil summin summin’ out of it then what the heck why not! Invade Away”

Don’t you just love the Armed Forces, so much cooler than those Un-Armed Forces, aka. Palestinians, ya boy it just ain’t the same fighting a war with a rock!

My First Blog!

So…here it goes. There’s no reason for you to care who I am, there’s no reason for me to give a flying f*ck if you don’t, I’m entitled to give my two cents and you should be so lucky you have a way to reply with yours.

I’m old school I guess, I believe in heroes, loyalty, respect and all that other crap we’re taught to believe in. Unlike most losers though, I don’t believe in these things because Spiderman told me to, or cause Hollywood thinks more parents will dish out the dollars if they stick it in their movies so they can take the easy way out of raising their kids. I just believe it would be a better place if we could all just suffer a little for the sake of others. Not that bullsh*t suffering that American soldiers claim for the sake of poor little helpless Iraqis, cause if they had to suffer to be responsible for the death of so many, then seriously, what was the point? Anyhow being my first piece I see how I easily stray, but you get my drift, it’s hard to be good, but it should be done anyway, not for heaven, not for the profit (only) just for making the world a better place, cue violin.

PS. Before any super touchy Americans get hurt because I mentioned that your bravest of the brave soldiers are suffering/dying for f*ck all, please note, by definition of democracy, it was your decision, and the decision of every American to have them killed, their blood, your hands, period, my words killed no one. If they did, well I’d be a George Bush.
